Explain the role of gravity in the life cycle of stars
Gravity plays a crucial role in the life cycle of stars. Without gravity a star would not exist. There are a variety of different stages in a stars life from life to birth, where gravity plays a role.
GRAVITATIONAL FORCES ON A STAR
A star is a sphere of gas held together by its own gravity. A star's life is a constant struggle against the force of gravity. Gravity constantly works to try and cause the star to collapse. Heat and radiation pressure from nuclear fusion reactions within the star causes an outward force in a star and gravity causes pressure inwards.
IGINITION OF A STAR
Gravity is the force, which pulls objects closer together, forming larger objects. This means that with more gravity it attracts more objects. Therefore gravity plays a huge role in the ignition of a star. As dust and gas are not evenly distributed in interstellar space, gravity causes these atoms to be pushed together. Gravity causes the dust and gas to collapse and as it collapses, under the influence of gravity the clumps of atoms spilt into smaller pieces in the nebula cloud. At this stage gravity is what causes a star to spin and heat up, causing the ignition of a star.

Gravity also plays a role in deciding what the final stage of a stars life is depending on the gravity of stars. Large stars with more gravity could become a neutron star or a black hole. However a smaller star with less gravity tend to fade out.
